Beyond Shadows

The realities of visually impaired people are often ignored in Togo. While exploring universal themes such as social inclusion and the fight against stigmatisation, young adults reveal themselves to their visually impaired peers. Far from allowing their disability to define them, they share their life experiences, their ways of adapting and the way they perceive the world around them.

This intimate documentary invites reflection on the place of people with disabilities in society and the need to rethink the barriers that exclude them.

The short film was directed by Clotilde Bertet and produced by Kipepeo Films as part of an audiovisual workshop organised at the Centre d'hébergement piur aveugles et malvoyants de Kpalimé (Voir au Togo association). Through interviews conducted by these young people, involving them in the discovery of the journalistic profession and, more generally, the audiovisual world (filming, sound recording, etc.), the film plunges us head-on into the reality of their disability.
